Meadow Buttercup (Ranunclus acris) wildflower
Ref: MEADOW
A vibrant and well known flower, bright yellow flower heads sit on a slender stem varying between 20 cm to 1 m in height and flowering from May - August time. This species is able to withstand mowing and has a bitter taste which means it is not palatable to grazing animals, however when dry they become more palatable. The petals of buttercup flowers trap a thin layer of air between two layers of cells. This gives them a mirror-like quality that reflects light, making them highly visible to pollinators.
