Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) wildflower

These spiny seedheads sit on a very thin stem and can be seen between April and October. This species is common throughout England and can be found in many fields, wastelands and grasslands on a variety of soils. Some alternative names for Ribwort Plantain are Black Jack and Buckhorn.
