Once it has gone over after flowering from July to August , Teasel seeds are an important winter food resource for some birds such as the Goldfinch. This is a tall biennial reaching up to 2 m in height. The flower heads are small in comparison to the stem at only 5 - 9 cm with a preference for heavy soils. Teasel is also known as barbers brushes.
