Red Campion (Silene dioica) wildflower

This is a bright, medium to tall flowering perennial reaching between 60-90 cm in height, you can expect to see the pink/red flowers between March and October. This species is able to survive in lightly shaded area therefore may be found in hedgerows or in woods, if in deep shade this plant will survive but not flower. It was the Romans who gave campions their common name, weaving it into garlands made to crown their champions at the public games in Rome.
