CHCx3 Spring Events

The Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping (CHCx3) is running three courses during the spring. 

The Biomass Open Day: 14th April 2026

On the day we will hear from the speakers:

  • Will MacAlpine, Rothamsted Research

  • Kevin Lindegaard, Willow Solutions

  • David Marsh, Energy Crops Consultancy

  • In the willow, David and Kevin will talk about crop agronomy, carbon storage benefits and crop harvesting and willow uses. Will MacAlpine will talk through the variety trial and the breeding work he has been doing.

  • In the miscanthus, Chris will talk through crop agronomy, carbon storage, crop harvesting and uses of miscanthus.

  • Other biomass crops will be highlighted on the field tour

There will be refreshments and free lunch

 This event is being held at the Biomass Connect Demonstrator Hub site at Niab Headley Hall near Leeds.

Herbal Ley Webinar: 15th April 

We will get to hear from experts from Cotswolds Seeds and FarmED as they discuss the latest developments from the herbal ley trial at FarmED in the Cotswolds. We will also look into the findings of the herbal ley trial in Cambridge.

The herbal leys will have been in for 3 years and have been sampled throughout! We will share what we learnt regarding how the soil has changed and insights about the carbon.

Metagenomics and Cover Crop Webinar: 29th April 

Join us to learn about the species present in our cover crop trial based at the Niab Morley site.

 

This webinar will be co-hosted by Niab and the University of York. We will hear from the Bioinformatician who has been working on the data from the cover crop trial on the work they do and what the results mean. Niab will be explaining the wider context of the results in terms of what the species mean for soil health and carbon.
