LegumeLegacy Paper Published in Science

Multispecies mixtures outperform a grass monoculture

The scientists at LegumeLegacy/LegumeNet have published their first paper about multispecies mixes in 'Science' one of the world's top academic journals.

Cotswold Seeds is proud to have been involved in this project exploring the legacy effect of legumes and multispecies mixes.

The key results are that multispecies mixtures outperform a grass monoculture with higher nitrogen fertiliser applied and a 70:30 two-species grass-legume combination at the same nitrogen fertiliser, and that the benefits of multispecies mixtures compared to those more conventional practices increases as temperature increases, meaning multispecies mixtures are a potential climate adaptation solution.
