Great Burnet is a tall native clump forming perennial standing about 2 feet above ground.

This species is a great choice to plant with other grasses and flowers and will weave through other species, adding colour and life into the late summer.
Persistence
This is a longer term perennial that will continue to flower and spread for many years.
Frost Tolerance
Great Burnet is not frost tender and is able to withstand temperatures as low as -20C.
Ideal Sowing Time
Can be sown at any time of the year however Autumn is best.
Management
This is a very hardy plant however it does require consistently moist but well drained soil for best results.

The flowers are all alike, with a crimson, four lobed calyx, four stamens and a single style with a rounded stigma.

History
In Cumbria they once used the crimson heads of the Great Burnet to make wine. In China Great Burnet is known as Di Yu and has been used in traditional medicine.
