Slender low/ short perennial. Its leaves, which are all stalked, have spreading lobes at the base. Leaves are arrow-shaped at the top whilst clasping onto the stem.

Uses

Sheeps sorrel is an early flowering species that adds colour to any area. It is very popular with the Small Copper butterfly which lay their eggs on the plant.

Persistence

This is a hardy and adaptable species. It sets seed from June to September with around 2000 seeds per plant and is pollinated by wind.

Frost Tolerance

Sheeps sorrel is a very cold-hardy plant and this hardy perennial is able to tolerate frosts and winter temperatures.

Although it is not proven clinically, Sheep's Sorrel is used as an ingredient for cancer treatment in native Canada. Sheep’s Sorrel can be used as an ingredient for soups, stews, cakes and salads.
