Our intern this summer is Amy Watts, who is in the second year of a degree in agriculture at the Royal Agricultural University.
Amy, from the Forest of Dean, has been helping on her family’s sheep farm since she was a young child, involved with hay making and lambing, at which she’s become skilled. She’s also worked on an arable farm during harvest, helping with corn carting and the maintenance of machinery. She’s no newcomer to dealing with customers and sales enquiries either, having spent a year working as a sales assistant at Countrywide Farmers in Cirencester.
Her real passion though is the upkeep and care of livestock, and she has a growing business selling eggs and breeding poultry and ornamental wildfowl, including bantams, call ducks, Mandarins, Carolinas, Pintails and Pochards.
Amy will be with us until October, helping with sales and admin, and is keen to gain an insight from the other side of the fence, learning how a business involved in agricultural supply works to support farmers out in the field.
We also have a new Warehouse Assistant, Dan Mountain, who’s helping Elliot and the warehouse team wrapping pallets, preparing seed for mixing and with van deliveries during the busy summer period. Dan is on a gap year before going to Birmingham University to read International Relations in September.
